The Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) was established in 1991 as an international association of business and commercial lawyers who reside or have an interest in the Asian and Pacific region. It has over 2300 members from over 66 countries. One main goal of the IPBA is to help lawyers stay abreast of developments that affect companies in the region as these become part of the global economy. Another goal is to provide an opportunity for business and commercial lawyers throughout the region to network with lawyers of similar interests and fields of practice. The Association has a number of specialised committees (environment, arbitration, intellectual property, etc.). It organizes an annual conference together with one-day single topic conferences on subjects such as construction contratcs, project finance, international property investment. The IPBA publishes a directory and a quaterly magazine. Membership in the Association is open to lawyers who live in or who are interested in the Asia-Pacific region. Annual dues vary according to age and country of origin.
